Umm Al Hayman Wastewater Project

WTE Wassertechnik launches the wastewater mega-project Umm Al Hayman in Kuwait
In Umm Al Hayman, one of the world's largest wastewater projects is being built to dispose of the wastewater from southern Kuwait and to supply agriculture and industry with process water. WTE will deliver a complete package from wastewater collection, treatment and distribution to energy generation, composting and plant operation - as a one-stop solution.

As general contractor, WTE will be responsible for the design and construction of a wastewater treatment plant (contract value of around EUR 600 million) as well as - together with partners - a sewer network with pumping stations (contract value of around EUR 950 million). With a construction volume of just under EUR 1.6 billion (excluding financing and operating costs), this is considered one of the world's largest and most complex water projects.

A timeframe of 30 months for the treatment plant and four years for the sewerage system with pumping stations is planned for the implementation. Thereafter WTE will operate the treatment plant for 25 years and the sewer network for three years.

The project with a complex financing structure is one of the largest Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects in the Middle East. The consortium of ‘International Financial Advisors’ (IFA) and WTE Wassertechnik on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works Kuwait ensures the expansion of advanced infrastructure and sustainability-oriented areas in the region.
