The energy management of the WTE Group is strongly committed to developing regenerative energy sources and incorporating them into our plants, which are designed with the aim of generating energy themselves and using it directly. This enables us to save resources, optimally fulfil climate protection requirements and further reduce energy costs within the plants.

We set out on our journey towards improving energy efficiency early on, and with our certified energy management system we are consistently continuing along the way.

Our energy management measures.

To achieve our clearly outlined energy management goals, we have developed a wide variety of measures:

  • Use a comprehensive key figure system to record, document and assess energy consumption.
  • Involve all employees in the energy management system and specify responsibilities.
  • Provide the required information and organisation structures as well as the required technical resources.
  • Give the energy team the required skills to implement measures relating to energy.
  • Employees are regularly given information to raise their awareness of energy-conscious conduct in the workplace.
  • When new procedures are introduced, ensure that they are energy-efficient.
  • Promote the purchase of energy-efficient products and services.
  • Regularly carry out audits to check, assess and update the effectiveness of the IMS system.
  • Comply with all applicable legal requirements regarding energy-related aspects.

Have a climate-friendly mindset from the outset.

In the design phase of our plants, we take into account climate-friendly implementation and long-term use. Using CHP plants and technologies for utilising regenerative energy, including photovoltaic systems, and selecting energy-efficient aggregates makes it possible to drastically reduce external electricity consumption, so that energy consumption and costs can be kept low when the plants are in operation.
Wherever possible when setting up the plants, we also incorporate experts in construction and electrical engineering from the country where the project is being implemented. This keeps our logistical workload as low as possible and helps us to reduce CO₂ emissions.

In conjunction with our technologies for virtually energy-self-sufficient plant operation, our energy management system helps us to develop and perfect our path towards optimising energy efficiency. This means we can make a significant contribution to the protection of resources, climate and the environment.

Fully exploit the potential of energy sources.

We continue to push ahead with extending plants for generating renewable energy. For example, we harness the energy sources of the entire process chain when building our plants – for energy-self-sufficient, environmentally friendly operation. In water technology plants, this includes not only the use of solar power but also the generation and use of biogas. This gas is created in the digestion process during sludge treatment and is used to generate power and heat. Both forms of energy can be used in the plant directly, increasing self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

In the sewage sludge mono-incineration plants, the waste heat generated in the process is used for the internal consumers and can also be used as district heat and/or to supply electrical energy that can be fed into the public grid. In this way, the WTE Group makes a significant contribution to the conservation of fossil fuel resources.
