Another milestone reached at WTE sewage sludge incineration plant Halle-Lochau

Published on:

After completion of the solid and steel construction as well as the boiler plant of the sewage sludge monocombustion in Halle-Lochau, the commissioning of the plant has already begun – so nothing should stand in the way of trial operation starting from autumn 2021.

The plant was planned and installed by sludge2energy GmbH (S2E); founders and co-partners are WTE Wassertechnik GmbH – a full subsidiary of EVN AG – and Huber SE. The future operation of the thermal sewage sludge utilisation plant is to be carried out by WTE Betriebsgesellschaft mbH.

The goal of the sewage sludge mono-incineration plant with power generation via steam turbine and generator is the environmentally friendly and economic utilisation of more than 33,000 tons of dewatered sewage sludge per year. The drying concept is adapted so that all aqueous residues from the exhaust vapour treatment can be fed into a separate utilisation process. The next step will be the economically and ecologically sensible recovery of vital phosphorus from sewage sludge ash.

By implementing the process according to the latest standards and strict requirements, this plant makes an important contribution to environmental protection.
