New sewage sludge incineration plant in Hannover-Lahe

Environmentally friendly heat will be available for around 3,500 households in Hanover from the end of 2022.

The client enercity Contracting GmbH has commissioned sludge2energy GmbH – a joint venture between Huber SE and WTE Wassertechnik GmbH – to build a sewage sludge monoincineation plant in Hannover-Lahe. As early as the turn of the year 2022/2023, the regular operation of the plant is to be started, in which approximately 130,000 tons of dewatered municipal sewage sludge (approx. 30,000 tons of dry matter) are to be treated thermally annually. sludge2energy GmbH is the general contractor responsible for the lot of process technology. Already during the engineering or the construction of the plant, the highest priority is given to the overall energy efficiency of the plant, with which the customer enercity shows a future-proof disposal route for sewage sludge with the possibility of legally required phosphorus recovery. In addition, the heat recovered in the process chain contributes to the supply of the regional district heating network.

In addition to a flue gas cleaning system to ensure compliance with the permissible emission limits, the main process components of the plant are two RotaDry® disc dryers and the S2E fluidizer, a stationary fluidized bed furnace with a fuel heat output of approx. 10.5MW.
