The sale of WTE Wassertechnik GmbH, initiated by EVN AG at the end of 2023, is now in its final stages: a new owner has been found in STRABAG SE, a European technology group for construction services, under which WTE will be able to continue developing its international project business in a targeted manner.
EVN and STRABAG recently finalised the relevant transaction agreements and signed the purchase agreement on 18 June 2025. This was based on an agreement reached in December 2024 on the key points of the transaction.
The purchase price for the shares in WTE totals €100 million. In addition, shareholder loans will be taken over. The Closing, which is subject to the necessary approvals and consents from third parties and the fulfilment of customary market conditions, is expected to take place within the next six months.
The transaction is in tune with the objectives of all three parties involved: The sale will enable EVN the intended focus on its core business in the energy sector. STRABAG is strategically expanding its portfolio with the acquisition of integrated water management. And WTE can continue its expansion course in its core business areas of wastewater disposal, water supply and sewage sludge utilisation.
WTE has been part of the EVN Group since 2003, where it consolidated significant parts of the international project business in the environmental segment.
In future, WTE will move forward on its successful path under its new owner STRABAG and continue to contribute to sustainable water management worldwide with innovative solutions.
STRABAG SE is a publicly listed European technology group for construction services. Its services comprise all areas of the construction industry and cover the entire construction value chain. Thanks to around 86,000 employees, the group generates annual revenue of approximately €19 billion. It pursues the goal of planning, building and operating in a climate-neutral and resource-efficient manner – a goal that fits perfectly with WTE’s sustainability philosophy.
