Published on:

This year, the 19th IWA Leading Edge Conference for water and wastewater technologies will take place from June 24 – 28 at the world heritage site “Zeche Zollverein” in Essen. With more than 300 participants from over 36 countries, the conference is one of the largest and most important specialist events in the water and wastewater sector worldwide.  The aim of the conference is an international discourse and exchange on current developments, topics and innovations in the water and wastewater sector.

WTE Wassertechnik GmbH is proud to be a platinum sponsor of this conference, which is taking place this year with a motto “Closing the water cycle”, the first time and to support it with specialist contributions from our colleagues.

The conference is sponsored by the International Water Association (IWA) based in London. The IWA is the world’s largest network of companies, experts and institutions in the water industry from 140 countries. This year’s hosts are Ruhrverband, GELSENWASSER AG and Emschergenossenschaft/Lippeverband (EGLV).

In addition to various keynote speeches and specialist presentations, the conference’s varied program also includes interactive workshops and technical tours designed to facilitate an exchange of knowledge.

WTE is also delighted to be able to shape the conference technical program by conducting two workshops on practical topics as well as by contributing with two poster presentations with the results of our research projects.

Our poster presentations

  • “Modeling denitrification in a pilot-scale biofiltration reactor treating nitrate-enriched groundwater”
  • “A simple bioelectrochemical system for ammonia recovery from municipal wastewater or anaerobic sludge liquid”

Our (interactive) workshops

  • Water reuse in Kuwait: Wastewater treatment project Umm Al Hayman (Jürgen Heinrichmeier) (Workshop 3 / June 24)
  • Digital operation of a wastewater treatment plant (Tom Siegel) (Workshop 2 / June 24)

The program finalizes on Friday, June 28 with excursions to water and wastewater plants in the Ruhr area.
