Zell am See relies on WTE: 25 years of operation for the Zellerbecken wastewater treatment plant
WTE Projektentwicklung GmbH, a subsidiary of WTE Wassertechnik, has been awarded the contract for the 25-year operation of the Zellerbecken Wastewater Treatment Plant (RHV). This is a significant success that once again underscores the trust placed in our expertise, experience and long-term commitment to municipal infrastructure projects.
Tailor-made operational management in the heart of the Pinzgau region
In the heart of the Pinzgau region, nestled between mountains, lakes and tourist hotspots, work is being done every day behind the scenes to ensure a clean future: the RHV plays a central role in wastewater disposal in the region – and ensures that the water we all use every day is cleaned in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner and returned to the natural cycle.
In addition, the plant also treats industrial wastewater from Biogas ZEMKA GmbH, which is first pre-treated in its own SBR plant (Sequencing Batch Reactor 👇).
SBR technology in use – what is behind it?
The first stage for ZEMKA wastewater is a so-called SBR plant. This sequential biological treatment works in cycles – that is, wastewater treatment takes place in several separate steps within a single reactor: filling, aeration (for biological degradation), settling, clear water withdrawal and sludge recirculation. This is an efficient method for pre-treating even highly contaminated industrial wastewater before it is discharged into the main treatment plant.
Impressive figures
The RHV wastewater treatment plant is designed for 77,000 population equivalents. In figures, this means a daily dry weather discharge of 16,450 m³ – around 11 million litres of water per day that is treated. This is a considerable amount when you consider that most of it is generated unnoticed in households, hotels and businesses.
Long-term operation through WTE project development
Under an operating agreement, WTE assumes responsibility for the entire plant operation, including the SBR plant for the pretreatment of industrial wastewater. The SBR plant is billed separately to RHV Zellerbecken.
The 25-year operating management contract covers not only technical responsibility, but also continuous optimisation and compliance with all official requirements. In this way, we are making an active contribution to sustainable water management in a region that is sensitive in terms of tourism and ecology.
